Tour Reviews
We’re Anouk (33) and Bas (35), and for our trip to Tanzania, Kilimanjaro simply wasn’t an option due to time. So, we decided on the 4-Day Mount Meru Hike as our big adventure, and wow, are we glad we did! Meru was just incredible. Our guide, Baraka, was absolutely brilliant – his knowledge of the wildlife, from baboons at the park gate to buffalo on the lower slopes, made every step fascinating. The initial walk through the forest, past waterfalls, felt so lush and alive. The huts were surprisingly comfortable, a welcome sight each evening.
The climb itself was tough, especially the final push on summit night from Saddle Hut to Meru Peak. Those steep sections in the dark, with just our headlamps lighting the way, really tested us! But Baraka and our porters kept our spirits high, always ready with a smile or a word of encouragement. Reaching Socialist Peak at sunrise, looking across at the majestic Kilimanjaro in the distance, was an emotional and unforgettable moment. Meru offered us exactly the challenge and the breathtaking views we wanted, without needing a full week. If you’re short on time but hungry for an authentic, challenging, and profoundly rewarding Tanzanian mountain experience, Mount Meru is absolutely perfect. We recommend it wholeheartedly!
