Zanzibar Island (originally called Unguja Island), is the biggest island in the Tanzanian archipelago (means group of islands) of Zanzibar. An exotic island with white sand beaches and palm trees swaying lazily in the sea breeze, Zanzibar established himself as one of the most attractive islands in the world. The island located 25-50 kilometers (16-31 miles) off the coast of the mainland of Tanzania. It has autonomy somehow, and the culture is unique as well. Zanzibar Island has very interesting history as a strategic island which many empires from the past desired to conquer.
The capital city of Zanzibar is Zanzibar City, with its historic Centre called Stone Town, which is a world heritage site. Most of the houses in Stone Town are old and the structures unchanged for centuries and the visitors can feel and learn about the great history of this place.
